Precariously Perched Installation- Jackie Partridge

Precariously Perched is an art installation that was exhibited as part of graduating show for MFA at Concordia University.

In this installation I balance twisted strips of maps on tiny pins that stick out from the wall.

This installation is about balance and being delicate and fragile.

During the installation maps would fall to the ground. Viewers had to be cautious around the installation or more maps would fall.

The maps were installed to represent a horizon line or a long line of a meandering trail. I wanted viewers to walk by the piece and see that their movement would cause the strands of twisted maps to also move.

I would love to install this work on a larger scale with even more maps in the future!

A Nook For a Nest – art installation by Jackie Partridge

A NOOK FOR A NEST

I started this series of art installations in 2018. This project is something I would love to revisit.

As part of my graduating MFA show Trace and Retrace I printed and framed two photographs from this series.

See my Exhibition at the O Gallery!

From January 15-March 8, 2020 I have an exhibition at the O Gallery @44 Gaukel in Kitchener, ON Canada.

This exhibition consists of my framed hand dyed and hand embroidered dish cloths that resemble aerial views of farmlands. These works are professionally framed in glass. They are wire mounted and framed in white.

I love the white frames in these works because the dish cloths are so colourful and often have areas of intense vibrancy.

Another element to this exhibition is my handmade abaca paper with embedded sewn thread drawings to mimic the act of farming the day in day out labour of the back and fourth motion. This repetition of farming coincides with the repeated lines. These paper drawings are displayed with clipboards as a field study. The clipboard presentation to me implies a sense of research or note-taking.

Here is the description of the exhibition:

If love is a feeling and care is an action, they are always engaged in conversation. As we navigate our lives, these conversations become increasingly important in shaping our stories. Drawing on personal lived experiences as archival knowledge of histories and possible futures, our identities are forged through our relationships with one another. Friends & Lovers explores the ways in which care, vulnerability & intimacy contribute to our sense of community. Who are you in love with? And how?

Fields Exhibition at The O Gallery

I am excited to announce that I am a part of a group of two other artists showing exhibitions at the O Gallery on 44 Gaukel St. in Kitchener, ON, Canada.

I will be showing work I have curated for a theme of Fields. This work includes past work of my hand dyed, hand embroidered dish cloths that are beautifully framed and work of my sewn thread line drawings embedded in abaca sheets of handmade paper.

Fields is an abstract representation of aerial views of farmlands. I have grown up close to farming and fields and have visually seen the landscape change over time and become more developed.

The exhibition is on view from January 15-March 6, 2020!

Let me know what you think of the show if you are local and able to see it in the comments!
